Association of Industrial Truck Trainers

The AITT was formed in 1985 and became an HSE recognised body deemed competent to accredit training organizations and individuals in 1991. Our specialist area is workplace transport and specifically any and all types of fork lift trucks and related items of materials handling equipment.

We are a non-profit making accrediting body that is owned by our members and run by an elected council consisting of the leading fork lift truck manufacturers, training providers and large scale users of materials handling equipment. This combination of skills and interests provides a wide breadth of knowledge and just as importantly a practical, pragmatic and cost effective approach to efficient and safe training.

Operating throughout the UK, AITT accredited companies and individual trainers offer the widest range of theoretical and practical operator training courses from beginner level through to instructor training.

ITSSAR have been established since 1991 and operate from offices based in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Its sole function is to write and monitor training standards for a broad range of mechanical handling equipment including construction plant, crane operation, lifting and rigging operations, and slinging and signalling. This ensures that its registrants are delivering the highest quality of training within the workplace.
The Standards are relevant, current, and comprehensive and far exceed the Accrediting Bodies Forum 2000.
Periodic review of all the Course Syllabus Manuals takes place, and these manuals are re-addressed by the ITSSAR Standards Forum. This Forum is made up of selected experienced ITSSAR training providers who have a vast knowledge and expertise in a wide range of mechanical handling equipment.

Training; paperwork; legislation; and facilities are continuously monitored by Training Standards Advisors. A monitoring report is submitted to each training organisation via Head Office to assist in maintaining standards.

Seminars are held on a regular basis to invite members to forward ideas and recommendations thus enhancing the overall quality of training, this in turn will promote ITSSAR as the leader of the highest quality training standards available to industry.

National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS)

First established in 1992, the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme is now one of the UK’s leading Accreditation and Registration Bodies, working across the Industrial, Construction, Utilities, Warehousing and Distribution, Agricultural, Ports and Marine sectors.

Based on detailed review of documentary evidence combined with structured, site-based Monitoring Visits, NPORS maintains and continually updates a set of national registers of: FLT & Plant Operators, Accredited Training Providers, Instructors, Approved Training Centres.

One of the main objectives of the NPORS scheme is to allow employers, operators and accredited training providers a flexible approach whilst maintaining nationally recognised standards and compliance with relevant legislation in order to meet the needs of Industry. This is designed to ensure the on-going competence and development of a safe and professionally trained workforce.
